Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) help health care organizations better meet the needs of its patients by tapping the expertise of people with lived experience. Massachusetts passed a law in 2008 requiring all acute and rehabilitation hospitals in the state to establish a PFAC. The legislation remains the only one of its kind in the country.

The Betsy Lehman Center serves as a central hub for information about PFACs in Massachusetts. It collects and shares data, hosts regular forums, and disseminates best practices to members across the state. The Center also convenes an advisory group to strategize about ways to best support PFACs going forward as they strive to contribute to safe, quality care that is responsive to the needs of patients and families in their communities.

Annual reports

The Betsy Lehman Center collects annual reports each year to measure the success of PFACs across the state and identify common challenges for PFAC members. Forms are due October 1 each year.
