Tackling the challenge of sepsis
Every two minutes someone dies from sepsis in the United States. Through the Massachusetts Sepsis Consortium, we worked with leading experts and advocates from across Massachusetts to address this public health challenge through initiatives to raise awareness, advance sepsis care, and save lives.
Below are toolkits and guidelines to prevent sepsis and improve early detection and treatment, targeted to specific health care settings.

For Emergency Departments
The Massachusetts Sepsis Consortium offers a report and toolkit on sepsis screening and treatment.

For Post-Acute and Long-Term Care
The Massachusetts Sepsis Consortium offers sepsis guidance for services across the post-acute care continuum.

For Pediatrics
The Surviving Sepsis Campaign publishes guidelines for diagnosing and treating sepsis in children.

Public Awareness
In the United States, 75% of people don’t know the most common symptoms of sepsis. The Consortium's public awareness campaign, Sepsis Smart, aims to let people know about sepsis and what to do if a loved one is showing signs of this serious disease.
